I’ve been thinking about the people we are/were as kids. As we grow up, the details around us and our responsibilities may change, but essentially we will always be the kid who loved problem-solving, exploring, building, talking, reading, writing, or taking care of others. At least, this is true for me. How about you?
Since the last time I wrote to you, we ran a brilliantly productive and inspiring 3-day Story Camp. Term 1 has started - we have returned to leading in-school programs, after-school mentorships, and writing groups. We held our first Creativity Picnic of the year on a blazing hot day, and afterwards, celebrated by running through the sprinklers in Alexandra Gardens. We are in the midst of judging Moss Creature Competition stories … a truly tough job, I’m glad there are three of us! We are getting excited for next week’s Story Soirée.
On a personal note, I learned how to handmake journals - something I have been curious about for a while. In folding, stitching, and gluing pages, I remembered how much I have always loved making things with my hands. Writing words on a page is creation too, of course. But as a child, I loved making the books as much as writing the stories. Often, I imagined the book before I’d finished writing it. I could see it already existing, and I wrote, typed, pasted, printed, and drew, until it got there.
Every now and then, I get a glimmer that I am doing exactly what I loved doing as a child. I am reminded that even as the details around me and my responsibilities change, I am essentially still the girl who loves making, writing, sharing stories, listening, helping, and connecting with others.
I’d love to hear if this resonates with you, too!
Whether you are here for creative writing events for yourself or a young writer in your life, I hope you’ll find what you’re looking for below. If you don’t see it listed, please feel free to reach out. We just might be able to make it happen!
Best wishes,
Coming up…🍃
