Last night, we gathered at this hole-in-the-wall cafe in Carlton, to read stories, poetry, and other writings, and share an evening with writers and literary humans from across the city. A co-hosted event with our friends The Provocative Inklings, the Story Soirée was, in the words of one guest: “a lovely atmosphere and the philosophy behind the writer's gathering community is so heartwarming.”
In my travels over the last few years, I’ve found events like these across the world and hoped to start something similar in Melbourne (so I can join them while I’m here :)). Last night, I looked around the room and felt how it is to see your dream playing out in front of you. It was a truly beautiful evening with wonderful people. I’m inspired. We will have some photos to share soon, as well as a date for our next soirée!
In other news, as we drift towards the end of another term, I’m looking forward to our upcoming Winter Story Camp for kids at the Balwyn studio. It is all set to be a cosy, inspired three days delving deep into storytelling techniques and the weaving of brand new tales.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be publishing an anthology of incredible stories by Year 6 writers at Serpell Primary School. We’re co-hosting a Found Poetry & Connection workshop at our second home, Many Arts Studio; leading another Creativity Picnic (details coming soon); and preparing for our Term 3 writers (kids group and mentorship students).
There is a lot to do and much to share, but for now, I just want to thank you. Without your presence, support, and interest in what we do, we couldn’t be here, creating so many spaces for writers of all ages. It means a lot.
If you’d like to know more about any of our programs, please feel free to reply to this email and get in touch!
I hope we can write together one day soon!
Best wishes,
Coming up…🍃
📚 Winter Story Camp (school holiday program for ages 8 - 13)
July 2 - 4 - Balwyn North Studio, VIC
It's cold outside, but from our cosy studio, we'll let nature carry us through the elements of age-old storytelling. From the flowing river of ideas to laying earthy foundations, planting story seeds, and breathing life into narratives with our words, we'll grow a small forest of stories, finishing our three-day camp with - what else? - sitting around the 'campfire' and telling new and old tales.
Will you join us for the adventure?
